The Michael Anoka Foundation (MAF) is a philanthropic organisation dedicated to addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by underprivileged communities in Nigeria, particularly in Delta State. Established by Engr. Michael Ifeanyi Anoka, a seasoned mechanical and production engineer and the Honourable Commissioner for Urban Renewal in Delta State, the foundation focuses on various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for marginalised groups.
Mission and Vision
MAF’s mission revolves around providing essential services and support to those in need, with a particular emphasis on healthcare, education, and community development. The foundation envisions a society where every individual, regardless of their background, has access to opportunities that promote well-being and self-sufficiency.
Key Initiatives and Programs
• Healthcare Outreach: In October 2024, MAF launched a free medical outreach in Ogume, Ndokwa West LGA, coinciding with Engr. Anoka’s birthday. Over 500 individuals received medical care, including free eye services, surgeries, and post-operative care. Additionally, food items and cash gifts were distributed to over 200 elderly women, and essential supplies were donated to the Peace-Loving People Orphanage Home in Kwale.
• Educational Support: MAF has been instrumental in facilitating educational opportunities for students in Ndokwa, Delta State. In 2024, the foundation flagged off a free JAMB registration program for 400 students, aiming to alleviate the financial burden of university entrance exams.
• Community Empowerment: The foundation actively engages in community development projects that promote self-reliance and sustainable growth. These initiatives are designed to uplift communities by providing resources and support to those in need.
Recognition and Leadership
Engr. Michael Anoka’s dedication to public service and engineering excellence was recognised in November 2024 when the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) conferred upon him the prestigious Fellowship status. This honour was bestowed in acknowledgement of his significant contributions to the engineering profession and his impactful leadership in various sectors.
